Runen: Built For Every Day (“Runen”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) is a health and fitness application designed to help users track daily activity, movement, hydration, and outdoor workouts. We are committed to protecting user privacy and being fully transparent about how data is handled.

This document explains how Runen handles user data, permissions, and app usage. By using the app, you agree to this Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.

1. Data Collection Overview

1. No Personal Data Collection Runen is designed with a "Privacy First" philosophy. We do not collect, request, or store any personal information. * No Identity Data: We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or social media profiles.

  • No Account Required: You can use all features of the app without creating an account or logging in.

2. Physical Activity Data: Runen uses the Android ACTIVITY_RECOGNITION permission to detect and count your steps using the device's built-in sensors.

  • Purpose: This data is used solely to provide the core functionality of the app (step tracking and fitness progress).

  • Storage: All activity data is processed and stored locally on your device. We do not transmit this data to any external servers.


3. Data Privacy & "No-Cloud" Guarantee

Runen is a "local-first" application. We do NOT collect, store, or transmit personal, health, or fitness data to any external servers or third parties.

  • No Account Required: You do not need to sign up or provide an email/phone number to use the app.

  • No Third-Party Sharing: We do not sell, trade, or share your fitness data with advertisers or any third-party databases.

  • No Cloud Storage: We do not use Firebase, AWS, or any cloud-based storage for your step history.


4. Data Retention & Deletion

  • User Control: Since all data is stored locally, you have total control.

  • Permanent Deletion: If you uninstall Runen, all locally stored data (including your step history and fitness goals) is permanently deleted by the Android system. Users may also request the deletion of any analytics data by contacting us at the contact email: thereliancestudio@gmail.com


2. Health & Activity Data

Runen processes certain activity-related data locally on your device only to provide app functionality.

This may include:

  • Step count

  • Estimated distance

  • Estimated calorie burn

  • Water intake logs

Important:

  • This data is not uploaded, not synced, and not accessible to us

  • Data is used solely to display insights within the app

  • All calculations are estimates and for informational purposes only

3. Permissions & Justification

Runen requests the following Android permissions.
All permissions are optional, and users can allow or deny them at any time.

If a permission is denied, related features may be limited but the app will continue to function.

3.1 Activity Recognition

Permission:
android.permission.ACTIVITY_RECOGNITION

Why it is needed:

  • To count steps and detect movement activity accurately

If denied:

  • Step counting and activity tracking will not function

3.2 Notifications

Permission:
android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONS

Why it is needed:

  • To send optional reminders (activity prompts)

If denied:

  • The app will not send notifications

3.3 Vibration

Permission:
android.permission.VIBRATE

Why it is needed:

  • To provide haptic feedback for interactions and achievement notifications

4. Local Data Storage

  • All app data is stored locally on the user’s device

  • No automatic backups or syncing

  • No recovery is possible after app uninstallation

  • Users have full control over their data through device settings

5. Analytics & Crash Reporting

To improve app stability and performance, Runen may use and collect Firebase Crashlytics & Analytics data for crash and error reporting.

Important points:

  • Crash data is anonymized

  • No personal, health, or activity data is included

  • Used only to identify and fix technical issues

  • No marketing or profiling is performed


5.1 Advertising ID and Device Identifiers

For the purpose of app analytics and to ensure the proper functionality of our services, this app may access the Google Advertising ID (AAID) and other device identifiers. These identifiers are used solely for internal analysis to improve the user experience and monitor app performance. We do not use this information to serve personalized advertisements or share it with third-party marketing agencies. Users can reset or delete their Advertising ID at any time through their Android device settings (Settings > Privacy > Ads).

6. Ads & Promotions

  • Runen does not display ads

  • No third-party advertising SDKs

  • No promotional tracking

7. Compliance With Laws & Regulations

Runen is designed to comply with major data protection and privacy regulations, including:

GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation – EU)

  • No personal data processing

  • No data transfer outside the device

  • Users retain full control of their data

CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act)

  • No sale or sharing of personal data

  • No data collection requiring opt-out

  • Runen does not function as a medical device

Runen is not a medical or diagnostic application.

  • The app does not provide medical advice

  • All activity, calorie, and hydration values are estimates

  • Users should consult a qualified professional for medical or health-related decisions

9. Children’s Privacy

Runen is designed for users aged 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. Users aged 16-17 are provided with the same high standard of data privacy as our adult users, with all fitness and activity data being processed locally on the device and not shared with third parties. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, we will delete such information immediately.

This Privacy Policy and Terms may be updated to reflect changes in the app or legal requirements.

  • Updates will be reflected by the “Last updated” date

  • Continued use of the app indicates acceptance of changes
